Wheat hamburger buns

November 11th, 2008 · No Comments

A wonderful recipe if you are interested in baking your own wheat hamburger buns.

The buns are easier to handle if allowed to sit over night before using them. Brush with melted real butter and a pinch of garlic or another herb of choice, and throw onto the grill. Allow to sit for a few moments, depending on heat, until crispy as desired.

Foods beginning with x

November 7th, 2008 · No Comments

This is a good question. we should talk about food beginning with x as only one edible thing beginning with x comes to mind.

We can think of xanthan gum, a thickener and stabilizer produced by fermentation from corn sugar, unless one can consider Xmas food acceptable or one can chomp xylem –the woody tissue of a plant- as some herbivores do.

Choice of cold pasta salad recipes

October 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Cold pasta salads are easy. Take your pasta shape of choice and cook it following the instructions. Place in a bowl still warm and add olive oil, your favorite dried herbs if using them, and salt to taste. Toss to coat. Chill.

Just before serving add vegetables to the pasta and your cold meat:

  • Cut up tomatoes, and shredded lettuce and/or carrot – cooked ham, grilled chicken, canned tuna.
  • Roasted red pepper strips, roasted eggplant and onion slices – mozzarella cheese, Parma ham.
  • Avocado, shredded lettuce – cooked peeled shrimp.

Sprinkle fresh chopped herbs if using them, and serve.

There are other cold pasta salad recipes scattered among All Foods Natural articles. See the frog eyed salad or the worms pasta salad featuring in You Can Take it with You. Granted those were planned for a packed lunch, but there is no reason you cannot prepare them for a family lunch.

There are a couscous, chicken and vegetables pasta salad and a mozzarella and tomato pasta salad in Sweet and Savory Recipes for a Picnic. Picnic at home, in your kitchen or dining room table or just serve as part of a meal. These are great for a party buffet.

Talking about parties and preparing abundance of salad, you’ll find some guidelines at Community BBQ and its pasta salad tiede.

Last but not least, get to Summer Salad Favorites and scroll down to find the pasta salad recipe there. This one has healthy broccoli in the list of ingredients.

Enjoy!

Does food affect dreams?

October 10th, 2008 · No Comments

The answer would be yes, according to popular wisdom. It is widely believed that nightmares come easier after a copious meal.

A better approach would be to say that food affects your ability to fall sleep and how deep your sleep would be. The recommendation about having your main meal at least two hours before going to sleep reflects this. Digestion slows down, almost stops, when we sleep. When one is in the middle of digestion is more difficult to fall sleep, or, if managing to sleep, it would be not deeply. This gives more chance to the REM phases coming up, the ones when dreams happen.

Certain mushrooms act as hallucinogen –create dreams- because of the drug-like substances they contain .so does alcohol. Many of them are only safe in very small quantities.
